ACNE

Acne is a common skin condition that can be frustrating to deal with. It happens when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, leading to pimples, blackheads, and sometimes cysts.

Acne primarily affects areas of the skin where sebaceous (oil) glands are most active, including the face, back, shoulders, and chest.

During your in depth consultation there may be a combination of treatments recommended, first to reduce the acne breakout and then to prevent future breakouts and help repair the skin from any scar tissue, for a smoother radiant looking appearance.

Characteristics of Acne

  • Comedones: These are the primary lesions in acne and include:

  • Whiteheads: Closed comedones where the pore is completely blocked and remains white or flesh-coloured.

  • Blackheads: Open comedones where the pore is partially blocked, and the top surface is darkened due to oxidation.

  • Papules: Small, red, tender bumps that occur when comedones become inflamed. They are often raised and can be sensitive.

  • Pustules: Similar to papules but filled with pus. They are red at the base with a white or yellowish centre.

  • Nodules: Larger, painful, solid lumps that form deep within the skin. They can be quite uncomfortable and may take longer to heal.

  • Cysts: Large, deep, painful lesions filled with pus. Cysts are similar to nodules but are typically softer and can lead to scarring if not treated properly.
